Veteran fashion blogger and freelance writer, Susie Lau of Style Bubble, has collaborated with fellow freelance writer, William Oliver, to publish Style Feed: The World’s Top Fashion Blogs. Bubble, a pioneer in the fashion blogosphere, creates an engaging book that examines innovative and highly sought-after international fashion blogs.
Style Feed, featuring 40 fashion blogs based on the date started, contains some very familiar names along with ones that are new to us, but have a cult following.
Here are a few worth checking out:
A Shaded View on Fashion
Since 2005 former fashion designer and photographer, Diane Pernet, has been blogging about fashion, film, art and literature. Her perspective is unique, eccentric and altogether consuming.
Street Peeper
After several employment failures, Phil launched Street Peeper in 2006 when street style fashion blogging was a brand new venture. The format proved successful and now Phil (and various contributors) cover street fashion in major cities around the globe.
The Business of Fashion
Imran Amed, a business advisor in the fashion industry, launched The Business of Fashion in 2007 for the same reason most bloggers did at the time–to fill a void. However, Amed’s fashion blog is anything but your typical FOTD, haul or street style blog. BoF provides insider insight into the business side of fashion, details on emerging designers and the technology that is now driving the industry.
Style Rookie
In 2008, when a myriad of fashion blogs were inundating the fashion scene without much differentiation, Style Rookie stood out. Maybe it was because Tavi Gevinson was only 12 years old at the time. Maybe it was the highly professional nature of her blog that led editors to believe that her blog was a fake that created intrigue. Or maybe it was the boldness of Gevinson to wear an over-sized bow while sitting in the front row of Christian Dior’s Couture show that caught the attention of the industry. Either way, Gevinson, now 16, has proven to be the real deal and an influencer for her generation.
The Man Repeller
When Leandra Medine decided to write her fashion blog in 2010 based on the question of whether or not an outfit or certain trend in fashion would repel men, it became an instant hit. Medine (whose husband is obviously not repelled by her sense of style) found that humor, fashion and speaking her mind were the perfect formula for sustaining long term success. Man Repeller is now every woman’s daily must-read.
