Pre Fashion Week Scoop: Jay Z Launch

Today marks the first day of Olympus Fashion Week. Although festivities
technically have just begun, parties and events have been ocurring all
over the City. Jay Z unveiled his new line Wednesday night at BED.
Turns out, he is taking Roca Wear to the next level with a women's
lingerie/sleep wear line called Sleep Sexy. It was pretty hot--I
enjoyed it. The line was sexy without being slutty, tasteful if you
will. It really seems like Jay is involved with his companies and I can
appreciate that. His line extensions/licensing deals are definitly
always in line with his style.

I really dislike when designers or labels license items that a) don't
rellate what so ever to the original concept or b) aren't really
designed--there is no innovation, like they crank out something so
generic and slap the name on it and expect consumers to go for it. It
seems as if the market is becoming so saturated lately with celebrities
producing clothing lines to high end designers now competing at the mass
market level with brand extensions, it's hard to tell how to go about
attacking the media to get the proper coverage/placement of your own.
PR professionals really have to be able to work an angle that fits while
also being newsworthy. Let's face it people, PR is much more than
communications and media placements, its strategy, tactical plans and
clients that are indeed press worthy--with all of these elements,
clients can have well rounded PR campaigns no matter how saturated the
market has become.
