DJ AM & Nicole Richie Fall Off Track

Nicole Richie was the celebrity we thought would actually make it down the aisle in 2006. So, we were disappointed to find out that she called off her engagement to deejay Adam Goldstein ( DJ Am) today. She and her ex-fiancé always seemed in sync on and off the dance floor. Now, Nicole will join the long list of celebrities with broken nuptials, including her ex- best friend Paris Hilton. Simple life no more, these girls lead complicated love lives.

Despite her dwindling figure and canceled television show, Nicole was grounded by her fiancé. Their relationship drew no comparison to the hasty marriage and imminent divorce of Reenee Zelwegger to Kenny Chesney. It lacked the obvious superficiality that characterized the duo: Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis. In a world where celebrities seem to be breaking off their engagements left and right, we thought Nicole and AM were the exception to the rule.

This begs the question — is an engagement a gateway to marriage or just a fun title? Do celebrities mirror the world at large or are they ensconced in their Hollywood bubble? Will we be seeing the Paris and Nicole phenomena in our own town? It’s not something to worry, but it could happen outside “their” world too.
