Chances are, if you are a lover of celebrity gossip or fashion, you are familiar with Popsugar and Fabsugar (my personal favorite), but did you know that there are many other facets to the Sugar Network? There are, in fact, 6 more Sugar blogs (with another 5 soon to be launching) and 1 Social Networking and Community site.
Lisa and Brian Sugar started the Sugar Network with $250k of their own money last year moving full speed ahead to find venture capital to cover the remaining costs to launch additional sites, which will feature a variety of videocasts and podcasts. Their network targets "trendsetting, passionate, smart women between the ages of 18 and 35." The Sugar Network is definitely one to be watching this year.
An overview of each site:
* PopSugar- The insanely popular (and addictive) celebrity news and gossip site. It’s choc full of video comments, candid pictures, interviews and everything else you can possibly imagine to learn the dirt on your favorite celebrity.
* FabSugar- A fashion, beauty and accessory guide. Beauty and fashion mavens can hear all about the latest trends, style tips, must-haves and where to buy them.
* TeamSugar- This is the community hub and Social Network where all Sugar members can post comments, discuss what is being written about on the other Sugar sites, post pages of their own and share in all things Sugar.
* DearSugar- Is an advice site dedicated to helping readers address issues involving men, careers, money, sex, friends, and family. DearSugar offers appropriate help to posted problems and provides the user community a forum to discuss how they agree, disagree or even offer additional ideas to help the reader.
* FitSugar- A place to inspire readers to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Stories feature exercise trends, diets, relaxation techniques and other wellness topics.
* GiggleSugar- Provides readers with their daily dose of comic relief. Stories feature commentary on the funniest tales, photos and videos from around the web.
* BuzzSugar- This is the hippest online destination for your must-have entertainment news and reviews. While Pop gives you all of the celebrity photos and juicy news you love, BuzzSugar will give you the straight story on all of the movies, TV shows, and music that those celebs are making.
* GeekSugar- Proves that geek is chic and help you take control of your tech life. Geeksugar offers simple how-to instructions, buying guides and gadget and geeky product reviews.
* YumSugar- Your food and drink destination. Here you’ll find recipes, tips and cooking ideas.
You would think that these sites alone would keep Brian and Lisa Sugar busy, but they are always brainstorming ideas on how to make the Sugar Network bigger and better and all-inclusive. The other sites that will be launching every 60 days in the future are AbcSugar (baby & parenting), HomeSugar (everything about the home), PetSugar (about our furry little friends), AirSugar (travel & vacation) and KarmaSugar (all about doing good).
One thing Sugar Publishing gets is that women are an underserved demographic when it comes to online media. As more and more women are becoming tech savvy, making the web their destination of choice when researching trends, news, products and so on, a network such as Sugar's will only continue to succeed and grow.
