As you can tell from my previous post about blogs becoming the new media, I absolutely believe that this is only the beginning. While companies are finding that sending products to a Blogger to review may increase revenue, they have also found that advertising on them can be just as good.

Any given company may not know how to advertise on a blog, be it not for all the companies popping up to support ads on blogs, and they sure are cashing in. One of the giants would be Google AdWords, which is not only website friendly, but blog friendly as well. Many niche blogs have found there is a great deal of money that can be made when placing Google Adsense (AdWords in action) on their blog, not only because of the advertisements, but because Google Adsense conforms to the content of your blog. The more focused your blog is on a particular subject, the greater likelihood that the ads displayed will fit in with your content and increase your chances of readers clicking. This obviously benefits the businesses placing ads through AdWords, as its target market sees their product or service.
There are other advertising programs, such as BlogAds, which allows you to choose blogs based on location, category, individual blog and “hive.” A hive would be a group of blogs that all have something in common. These are Bloggers who were invited into the hive by the manager, or person who started the particular hive, to offer a single group to display your ad all at once. Through BlogAds a company is able to see the average page views of a blog, a description of the blog and the ability to click through to the actual blog to make sure that their advertisement would be appropriate for the Blogger's target reader base. For example, a $3500 payment for a one week ad placement on Perez Hilton is estimated to get your ad 13,103,675 page views. Or you could opt to pay $30 for a one week placement on MamaPop.com (co-authored by one of my favorite mommy Bloggers Amalah) and get 14,169 page views.
While it is widely known that text ads, such as those through Text Link Ads, will get more increased conversions, there is something to be said about advertisements that show picture with text. It’s eye catching and offers more than just another “catch phrase” to get your attention. Personally, when I visit a blog, I am more apt to pay attention and click through on an advertisement where I can see the product, than from a text ad that shouts, “New weight loss system!”
Either way, text ads or picture ads, if you are ignoring or bypassing advertising on blogs, then you surely are missing out on revenue dollars for your business.
