The New Age of Fashion (cont)

Glamor Magazine ImageFashion is always moving from one extreme to another, and it's really quite simple. The 40 year olds were tired of having fashion icons in their 20's (i.e. Jennifer Aniston in her Friends hey day). Along came Sex and the City with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon becoming fashion icons that women in their 40's could embrace. The problem occurred when the 20-something women also embraced the Sex and the City look. Suddenly the 40-somethings and 20-somethings were dressing alike.

That didn't jive with some and with the end of the Sex and the City series many women of all ages started looking for new fashion icons. Hence, the return to 20-something celeb and style focused on Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton and Mischa Barton. So either it is a pendulum that swings back and forth and will swing back to more mature women; or Sex and the City was just an anomaly in the space time continuum of fashion not to be replicated again any time soon.

Personally, I think that there is a melding of 40-something and 20-something fashion. Women of all ages are now dressing how they feel, not their physical age. For instance, Cheryl Crow is over 40 and dresses young and fun and sexy; while Emmy Rossum who is nearly 20 dresses in more mature gowns and outfits. Both Crow and Rossum are on the cover of Glamour this month with Eva Longoria, so I think I might be right on the mark here! Honestly ladies, it's not about the number on your drivers license, it's about who you want to be and going for it with gusto.
