CelebReality: The Future of Television

Sometimes I find myself in dire need of some mindless television to take the edge off. This last Sunday I took the time to watch the first episode of Flavor Flav’s show The Flavor of Love 2. Yes, I was expecting to be entertained, but I never thought I would anticipate the next episode. This was until “Somethin’,” Flav appointed all the contestants nick names, pushed one out on the mansion’s marble staircase. And to boot, after punching around “H-Town” around for messing up her $800 weave, “Saaphyri” was on her knees begging the lord for forgiveness for “whoopin’ this white girl’s ass.” After this, I was hooked.

Flav’s wardrobe selection has only advanced with the success of the show. Flav, who now sports a Movado inspired clock around his neck and opts to wear vividly designed tailored suits, is movin’ on up. The funny thing is I only see this show getting better and better.

After I had come to this conclusion, I asked myself why we find celebrities incredibly fascinating. We probably live vicariously through them as a way to escape our realities. We indulge in being a part of their glamorous lives. But, when they stumble and fall, which often happens with CelebReality, we jump at the chance to watch them be normal like everybody else.

With CelebReality rising in popularity, I only see the shows improving. I don’t mean Emmy Award winning excellence, but since we so love to see celebrities make fools of themselves, I for see the shows getting funnier and more obnoxious. Case in point, Flavor Flav’s antics have gained him another season of The Flavor of Love, is the highest viewed show in VH1 history, and has one this blogger over as a viewer.

Can we see new music projects from Flav? Or, will we see Flav as next spokesperson for Movado’s new line for men. Time can only tell. But, we at Pierce Mattie will be sure to consider stocking the bathroom for The Flavor of Love 3.
