Award ceremonies… they are everywhere nowadays, whether it be the MTV Video Music Awards, the BAFTA’s (an English favorite!) or the worst dressed of the year – people just can’t seem to get enough of these glamorous events! The red carpet is out, the celebs strut their stuff, show off their new teeth while Paris View image tests the boundaries of clothing size restrictions (of course Lindsay looks on disapprovingly! View image) but there can never be enough red carpet merriment to keep the cameras flashing!
Recently I found out something new… there is even a Best Blog awards! Being of an inquisitive temperament I decided to check it out (it’s true, nobody was lying). Not long ago the sixth annual weblog awards were held – the 2006 bloggies! I have to take my hat off to the winners, I personally never knew it was all happening!
The global judging sourced the best blogs producing winners of all varieties - one of my personal favorites being the Best Community Weblog, also the winner of best new Weblog and the Weblog of the year- PostSecret, where people anonymously send in postcards with secrets written on them (I am just trying to work out which secret to send in!!)
I sat back and thought … “has the world gone too far… should we get an award for waking up in the morning” but no, looking at the information conveyed through this new and expanding medium I will gladly stand behind the Blog awards being more useful than “the Best on screen Kiss” (sorry you Notebook fans!). The Internet is here to stay (or so I have been informed, let's see if it passes the tests of time, they thought that about VHS as well!) and Blogs are here too, so why not celebrate personal achievement on a global scale. Take for example the PostSecret site, how many people has that influenced? Where do all the post cards come from? And does it get photographed drunk falling over on the pavement? hhmmm
I do have to say… I was a bit upset at the fact that the Pierce Mattie PR blog did not receive any awards! Maybe next year!!
