M-A-C COSMETICS HOSTS OFFICIAL OLYMPUS FASHION WEEK KICK-OFF PARTY

Ok - so who was there yesterday? Come on, fess up. Pamela Anderson showed up. Nude Models to Don Dress Designs by Zac Posen, Heatherette and Vivienne Tam as Painted by M-A-C Artists M-A-C Cosmetics, the ground-breaking professional cosmetics brand, officially kicked off fashion week on February 2nd with a live exhibition of the Qi Pao (chi pau), the classic Chinese Dress, created entirely with M-A-C makeup products. Nude models were painted in Qi Pao inspired designs including creations from renowned New York designers Zac Posen, Heatherette and Vivienne Tam. The M-A-C Chinese Dress exhibition, held at Eyebeam Studio, was attended by over 700 of New York's fashion and media elite.

M-A-C VIVA GLAM spokesperson Pamela Anderson created a stir when she took the party by storm, escorted by M-A-C Global President John Demsey and Global General Manager Peter Lichtenthal. Other celebrities in attendance included Helena Christensen, Natalia Vodianova, Justin Portman, Angie Harmon, Fabiola Beracasa, Phillip Bloch, Serena Bass, Nina Clemente, Luigi Tadini, Sante D'Orazio, Ric Pipino, Heatherette, Vivienne Tam, Genevieve Jones, Stephen Knoll, Patrick McDonald, Fern Mallis, Jay McCarrol, Caroline Weinberg, Irina Pantaeva, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, William Lauder, Sam Shaffer, Ann Slater, Esteban Cortazar, Anouck Lepere, MJ Diehl and Roman Milisic, Alli Hilfiger, Tinsley Mortimer, Colin and Elizabeth Callender, Robert Verdi, Theodora Richards and Suzanne Bartsch. Celebrity DJs Colleen Shannon and Tamara Sky, two of LA's hottest DJs energized the crowded, styled in sexy, Asian-chic ensembles.

M-A-C Chinese Dress, a unique, live gallery exhibition, is a celebration and reinterpretation of the classic Qi Pao garment. M-A-C filters the Qi Pao through its renowned artistry and renegade spirit. The result is 12 highly inventive and creative interpretations on the Qi Pao and iconic Chinese cultural motifs, including designs by Zac Posen, Heatherette and Vivienne Tam, each composed entirely of M-A-C makeup products on gorgeous live models. M-A-C Director of Makeup Artistry Nadine Luke created the balance of the Qi Pao designs, and will lead a team of more than 50 M-A-C artists in creating the intricately detailed looks on the model's nude bodies. The body designs are accessorized by breath-taking hats from renowned millenary designer Stephen Jones; many of the bodies receive a glamorous dose of sparkle and shine with Swarovski crystals.

"I love the human body, it's so much fun to enhance and abstract it," says Zac Posen, "The painting was inspired by the constellation embroidery from our Spring 2006 Collection. It's architectural and anatomical." For Vivienne Tam, "the dress design embodies the drama and mystery of the Chinese Opera." Heatherette designers Richie Rich & Traver Rains were thrilled to be involved. They explained, "We have always been drawn to the magic of Chinese culture. Using brilliant colors that explode though the patterns, fused with the Heatherette sensibility and the spirit of M-A-C, this project was a dream come true."

The Qi Pao was developed in the 17th century and has Qi Pao evolved over the centuries into the elegant silk dress we see today, often in sumptuous and vibrant colors with elaborate embroidery. Chinese women still wear the Qi Pao, also known as a Cheongsam, in traditional and formal occasions. Timeless in its design, many modern fashion designers continue to be inspired by the classic shape of the Qi Pao - at once both sensual and demure.
