Skin Care Tips for This Winter

Today while walking around Manhattan it was easy to notice the 50 degree weather. My skin felt dry and was starting to flake. When I store away my summer shorts and t-shirts I always put my gel creams and foaming face washes in a box also. It's time for cream cleansers and layering serums with night creams. Ahhh how I dislike cold weather.

The winter months can be a nasty time of year for your skin. Unfreeze your skins potential with these skincare suggestions.

Just when your skin was finished recovering from the blazing summer damage (or perhaps its still working on it!) the fall and winter months hit us with all new skin care drama. A lot of people dont realize the simple truth that wearing a quality SPF is important year round, not just when the sun is shining. Snow can reflect the sun and cause burns, while cloudy days should never be taken as a free day from the suns damaging rays.

However, winter skincare goes beyond the typical SPF lecture. There are a lot of other things that you can do to keep your skin care up to date and ready for anything!

Health-cares.net says it best, "Our skin is made up of different layers. The outer epithelial layer our epidermis is the most likely target of our environment as the harsh elements can hardly reach the dermal layer that lies below. The epidermis constantly peels off and rejuvenates. But during this course of molting the skin looks dry and you tend to lose the natural glow that you were so proud of. The peeling off is more likely to occur during the winter months as the winds are dry and squeeze out the natural oily texture of the skin. Again there are many who are allergic to the cold environment. They suffer from painful allergic manifestations that have a detrimental effect on the skin and can even lead to infections. They fail to acclimatize with the sudden change in the climate and the greatest effect is felt on the skin. Skin happens to be the reflection of how you are affected by changes in your environment."

So if your skin appears to be suffering more than normal, realize that this is a cry for skincare help and that you need to do things to help it get back on track.

One of the most important skincare precautions that you can take is to make sure that your body is hydrated. As always, be sure to drink water, but if you suffer from dry skin, a humidifier is a great skincare trick. With the house extra warm and the windows all shut , the indoor air can become uncomfortably dry for your skin. Humidifiers are a relatively inexpensive skincare investment, and placing them strategically around your house can give you great skin care benefits.

If you do not have acne prone skin, it is especially important to invest in a quality skincare moisturizer that comes in ointment form. Ointments have the highest concentration of oil in them, and that is important when the weather outside is acting extra nasty. Dont forget your hands too! Skin care is about all exposed skin, not just your face!

Lastly, remember to wear layers, so that when you are indoors, you dont have to overheat your skin and cause irritation. Layers are a great skincare trick if you will be alternating between going indoors and outdoors.

The winter doesnt have to be a punishing time of year for your skin as long as you take the necessary skincare precautions to help it stay healthy and looking great!
